Prof. Dr.-Ing. Christoph Duppel

Christoph Duppel has held the professorship of Design in Historical Context in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences since 2016 and is head of the course of study in Architectural Heritage (B.Sc./M.Sc.).
In teaching, research and practice, Christoph Duppel’s professional focus is in particular on methods and approaches for the careful exploration, evaluation and preservation or restoration of historical buildings in accordance with the preservation works.


Training and Professional background

  • Seit 2018: Head of the course Built heritage (B.Sc.) in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences.
  • Seit 2016:Professorship for the subject ‘Constructing in a Historical Context’ in the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at RheinMain University of Applied Sciences
  • Seit 2016: Engineering and consulting activities in the field of careful and sustainable handling of listed buildings.
  • 2012 – 2016: Project manager in the office of Bollinger und Grohmann Ingenieure, Frankfurt am Main. Responsible for the refurbishment of historic buildings, preservation of historical monuments and building in existing structures.
  • 2008 – 2012: Structural engineer at BfB – Büro für Baukonstruktionen, Karlsruhe. Investigation, evaluation and repair of historically significant buildings.
  • 2004 – 2009: Scientific employee at the Institute for Structural Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Fritz Wenzel.
    Doctorate (Dr.-Ing.) with the dissertation „Engineering investigations on the main dome and the main piers of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul“.
  • 1998 – 2004: Structural engineer at the Büro für Baukonstruktionen – Wenzel Frese Pörtner Haller, Karlsruhe.
  • 1990 – 1997: Studies of Civil Engineering at the University of Karlsruhe (TH) with specialization in ‘Structural Engineering’ (Degree: Dipl.-Ing.).
