Prof. Dr. dipl. Bauing. ETH Eugen Brühwiler
Kurzbiographie
Eugen Brühwiler has been Professor of Building Preservation at the EPF Lausanne, Switzerland, since 1995. His teaching and research include aspects of the so-called “recalculation” of existing structures, in particular the monitoring-based fatigue and structural safety of existing bridges, as well as the use of UHFB (cement-bonded high-performance fiber composite building materials) to improve and save existing bridges and to build new bridges in resource-conserving lightweight design. Eugen Brühwiler is also active as a consulting engineer and expert in bridge construction and for Swiss monument preservation.
Seniorprof. Dr. rer. oec. habil. Thomas Hänseroth
Kurzbiographie
Thomas Hänseroth held the professorship for the history of technology and technology studies at the TU Dresden for more than a quarter of a century. During this time, he was one of the first representatives of his subject to make the concept of high modernity – which is of central importance for this priority program – useful for research in the history of technology. Now a senior professor, Thomas Hänseroth continues to research and teach on the history of knowledge and ideas in technology as well as the history of the engineer’s profession, addresses the elementary topic of innovation, and examines the role of technology and science in National Socialism and the GDR.
Prof. Dr. sc. ETH Mario Rinke
Kurzbiographie
Mario Rinke researches and teaches on constructional and structural aspects of architecture. Trained as a civil engineer and active in the field of architecture for many years, he is particularly interested in transformation processes of technical knowledge, materials and institutions. From a cultural-historical perspective, he is concerned with recycling as well as hybrid material concepts and studies the history of early industrial materials such as reinforced concrete and industrially manufactured structural timber (Glulam or glued laminated timber). He regularly gives international Design&Build workshops in which he seeks to explore the role of craft and technology in contemporary construction.
prof. dr. ir.‐arch. Els Verstrynge
Kurzbiographie
Els Verstrynge is an associate professor in the Materials and Structures der Group of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Catholic University of Leuven (KU Leuven, Belgium). Her research aims to improve the safety and durability of existing infrastructures and historic structures through multilevel analyses of damage and deterioration, ranging from materials to the supporting structure. She investigates time-dependent degradation processes in masonry and reinforced concrete structures using advanced non-destructive testing methods as well as experimental and computational methods.
Prof. Dr.-Eng. Christiane Weber
Kurzbiographie
Research interests include the history of building technology and urban construction in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of technical education, and phenomena of cultural and technical knowledge transfer between France and Germany. Research also focuses on the topic of model statics and the history of civil engineering in the 20th century.
Prof. Dr.-Eng. Danièle Waldmann-Diederich
Kurzbiographie
Danièle Waldmann-Diederich heads the Institute of Concrete Structures at TU Darmstadt, which is integrated into the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. Research focuses on structural analysis as well as the sustainable and economical use of resources of all kinds, with a particular focus on intelligent buildings and structures, demountable constructions and circular economy. The overarching goal is to ensure knowledge transfer to society for the technological needs of industrial and public stakeholders.
