PD Dr.-Eng. habil. Volkmar Zabel is a civil engineer and he focuses on the fields of structural dynamics and system identification. Within the scope of his research work, the focus is always on methods for the identification and evaluation of the condition of existing structures and their representation in numerical models. Thereby, procedures based on the identification of the dynamic system behavior occupy a large space. The detection of and the handling of uncertainties in the results obtained with these methods lead to questions in the current research activity within the working group. Several of the investigated structures, such as railroad bridges or transmission towers, were built in the era of high modernity.
