OPEN MONUMENT DAY IN THE SPORTS HALL KT60L

On 10.09.2023, the renovated GDR type school sports hall KT60L of the Freie Waldorfschule Magdeburg e.V. was opened to the public as part of the Open Monument Day. During the day it was possible to visit the building from the outside and inside and to look behind the scenes. In addition, 5 guided tours of varying degrees of detail were given by research assistants Volker Mende (TU BA Freiberg, IWTG) and Annkathrin Heinrich (TU Braunschweig, ibt, IS), who are researching the steel construction of the GDR in the DFG priority program 2255 “Cultural Heritage Construction”. This was supplemented by a hands-on offer in the construction of a Leonardo bridge by Jan Wernecke (Waldorf student father) for young and old. In this way, the construction idea of the barrel-shaped supporting structure of the sports hall could be understood. The resulting building form enables a cooperation with another research project for the automatic registration of buildings on the basis of satellite images, which was also presented by means of photo-rich posters.

Another hall on the school grounds was also included in the tour. It was built back for a planned new construction, so that the floor slab could be started and photos from the accompanied dismantling could be viewed. These halls show examples of young monument talents as well as sustainable building in line with the annual theme “Talent Monument” and stimulated exchange and discussion among the approximately 40 visitors. The scientific staff would like to thank the Freie Waldorfschule Magdeburg for their support and wish a nice open day with another chance to visit!
