WORKSHOP CLUSTER C – “BUILDING AT THE LIMIT”

Braunschweig / BigBlueButton
On September 09, 2021, the Institute of Building Preservation and Structure and the Institute of Steel Construction at TU Braunschweig invited Cluster C to a one-day workshop. All subprojects, Innovation system of the steel industry (C1), Physical models in civil engineering (C2), Mass Monument Industrial Hall (C3) and lightweight steel and metal structures in the GDR (C4), were represented. In additionAntonia Zöllner M.Sc. participated with her associated project Above-Ground Structures of the Rammelsberg.

The special program for an originally three-day workshop at the host institutes with a guest lecture, cross-project construction with MERO as well as a plant tour of Salzgitter AG was prohibited at the time due to the Corona pandemic – but only postponed. Therefore, the first meeting took place in the form of a one-day video conference.
In the morning, those working on the individual projects briefly presented their current status and then their thoughts on the respective research methodology. This chosen focus provided opportunities for discussion, comparison and exchange of ideas.

In the afternoon, „Bauen am Limit“ was on the agenda. At the beginning there was a short impulse lecture with the focus “Beginning of an approach” by Prof. Dr. Thiele and Dr. Eng. Sebastian Hoyer. Afterwards, the topic was worked on and discussed by everyone using online workshop methods. The processing took place on the online whiteboard Miro.
This led to discussions of the obvious Olympic goals of „higher“ (towers, skyscrapers), „further“ (bridges, halls) and „faster“ (precast construction). In addition, appropriate generic terms and corresponding examples with brief explanations were collected for the (project-related) associations with limits.

This workshop is to be followed by another in 2022.
